This beautiful mountain caught my eye while driving through “Torres Del Paine” national park, Cile. It is situated in Argentina though. Yes, the national border runs across the landscape here ! That means one cannot get closer because all the roads finish as a dead end in that direction… never mind anyway, as I finally find an interesting point of view – even if distant – so i can embrace the whole landscape : The mountains appearing in contrejour during the morning, the rock folded like a heavy curtain, dominating the Sierra. A golden sun high in the sky whose light caresses the slopes. The mountain is brown and orange and green, and purple and blue. Some passing clouds spread blue shadows across the valley.
Here are two study sketches i did previously on paper. The gouache on the left was to remember the colors i could see there. The mini oil painting on the right was a try for a yellowish sky. The final result takes from both, with a more accurate definition of the shape of the mountain, and more sobriety in the use of color.
